Two-wheeler loans
Bike loan EMI for ₹1 lakh: 2 or 3 years?
A ₹1 lakh bike loan at 12% costs about ₹4,707 a month for 2 years or ₹3,321 for 3 years. The longer loan lowers your EMI by about ₹1,400 but adds roughly ₹6,600 in interest.
EMI and interest on ₹1 lakh
| Interest rate | 2 years: EMI | 2 years: interest | 3 years: EMI | 3 years: interest |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 10% | ₹4,614 | ₹10,748 | ₹3,227 | ₹16,162 |
| 12% | ₹4,707 | ₹12,976 | ₹3,321 | ₹19,572 |
| 14% | ₹4,801 | ₹15,231 | ₹3,418 | ₹23,039 |
Two-wheeler loan rates vary a lot between banks, NBFCs and dealer finance schemes. Ask for the annual interest rate in writing, not just the EMI.
GST 2.0 made most bikes cheaper
Since September 2025, motorcycles and scooters up to 350cc carry 18% GST instead of 28%. A bike priced at ₹1 lakh before tax now costs about ₹1,18,000 instead of ₹1,28,000. Bikes above 350cc moved to 40%.
The lower price also means a smaller loan and a smaller EMI for the same bike.
Watch out for "zero interest" offers
Some dealers advertise 0% or very low interest but add a large processing fee, a compulsory insurance add-on, or remove the cash discount. Compare the total amount you will pay across all EMIs and fees with the on-road cash price.
Smart ways to buy
- Pay at least 20% to 25% as a down payment to keep the loan small.
- Choose 2 years if the EMI fits your budget. You save interest and own the bike sooner.
- Check whether your bank offers a pre-approved two-wheeler loan. These often have lower rates than dealer finance.
- Budget for insurance, fuel and servicing too, not just the EMI.
