₹10,000 SIP for 10, 15, 20 and 25 years: how much will you get?
A ₹10,000 monthly SIP can grow to about ₹1 crore in 20 years at 12% a year. You invest ₹24 lakh, and market growth adds the rest. At a more cautious 10%, it reaches about ₹76.6 lakh.
₹10,000 a month at 10% and 12%
| Duration | You invest | Value at 10% | Value at 12% |
|---|---|---|---|
| 10 years | ₹12,00,000 | ₹20,65,520 | ₹23,23,391 |
| 15 years | ₹18,00,000 | ₹41,79,243 | ₹50,45,760 |
| 20 years | ₹24,00,000 | ₹76,56,969 | ₹99,91,479 |
| 25 years | ₹30,00,000 | ₹1,33,78,903 | ₹1,89,76,351 |
Look at the jump from 20 to 25 years at 12%. You add only ₹6 lakh of your own money, but the value grows by almost ₹90 lakh. That's compounding at work.

With a 10% step-up every year
If you raise the SIP by 10% each year, ₹10,000 becomes ₹11,000 in year two, ₹12,100 in year three and so on. Over 20 years at 12%:
- You invest about ₹68.7 lakh in total.
- The estimated value is about ₹1.99 crore.
That's nearly double the flat SIP, from raises you probably wouldn't notice month to month.
Things to know before you start
- 12% is an assumption, not a promise. Equity funds can fall 20% to 30% in a bad year.
- The biggest gains come in the last few years. Stopping early, or stopping during a market fall, cuts your result the most.
- Long-term gains on equity funds are taxed at 12.5% on gains above ₹1.25 lakh a year when you sell.
- Choose "Direct" plans, which have lower fees than "Regular" plans and leave more money in your fund.
